McCoy's First cria

McCoy's Lucky Lady

McCoy's Lucky Lady

I'm often asked, "What is your favorite part of raising alpacas?"
My answer is always the same and comes without giving a second thought, "When the crias are born!"
We're now on our 10th birthing season and I can still say "This never gets old!"
The excitement and thrill are still there as each new cria enters the world. It's amazing to watch as the newborns find their legs, start nursing and walking around literally minutes after birth. You wonder, "How can this be?"
Seeing these beautiful creations of God just reinforces why we raise alpacas. It brings joy to our hearts and makes all the hard work worthwhile.
We have been blessed with a gorgeous , healthy black female cria, sired by Blueridge Peruvian McCoy, out of ODF Grace's Lucky Charm.
This is McCoy's first cria and he has fulfilled our expectations of what he would produce for us.
Lucky Charm is an incredible mom, so patient and attentive! She makes you glow as you watch her gently nudge the cria back to her udder to nurse.
We really couldn't have asked for anything more and truly feel blessed!

Available Alpacas: Rebel's Rebellion

We are excited to introduce to you one of our crias currently available for purchase, Rebellion. This stunning patterned boy, the product of two outstanding Pinto Patterned parents, has a sturdy, correct conformation coupled with a wonderful fleece.

His sire, Clear Mountain's Painted Rebel is a striking Blue ribbon winning Pinto herdsire, a beautiful phenotype with lots of curb appeal. His dam, Anticipation Annie, is also a Blue ribbon winning Pinto who has produced two Pinto patterned offspring consecutively when paired with Rebel.

Rebel has a nice solid build, a calm temperament and fleece to die for. Wonderful soft handling fleece, great staple length, coverage, and character. His genetics are impressive as well and include Legacy and Peruvian Grandmaster. If you like patterned alpacas, this boy would make a great addition to your herd! Take a look around our website to learn more about the quality animals we offer or contact us to schedule a visit to come out and learn more about the alpaca business.

Shearing Day 2018

Miracle getting a close shave!

Miracle getting a close shave!

Shearing Day is always an exciting and hectic day at our farm! Preparation is the key to success and experience is the best teacher. Having a good setup with the alpacas in close proximity to the shearing area, yet leaving ample room for the shearers is essential. Having all your supplies on hand along with plenty of help is also necessary.

Perhaps the most important component for success is employing the services of a skilled shearer. This should be scheduled several months in advance as most of the good guys are in high demand and run tight schedules. We've used Joel (Jay) Mariacher for the last several years and consider him to be one of the best in the business. Jay is professional and reliable and comes with a great crew of young men to help.

Outstanding Dreams Farm's 2017 Holiday Open House

We welcomed hundreds of people to our Holiday Open House this year, held November 25th on Thanksgiving Weekend. We were blessed with ideal weather which made for an enjoyable outing for all.

Many first time visitors were introduced to alpacas and learned how and why we raise them, while other guests were some of our regular visitors. Seeing the people who we know returning here to say hello and see the new additions to our herd is always a wonderful time. We had a lot of folks enjoying shopping in our Farm Store and picking up gifts for loved ones. Mrs Claus was here as well to greet the children and hand out candy canes.

Events such as this are truly a rewarding experience for us! Thanks to all who came out to enjoy the day here and allowed us to share our love and knowledge of the alpacas here at the farm.

Sincerely,

A New Home for our Boys

We were very excited to deliver four of our boys to their new home on Sunday. The excitement of the new owners was contagious as they welcomed the new family members!

It is always a joy to help fulfill the dreams of our clients, and to be part of their introduction into the wonderful world of alpacas. Knowing these boys are going to such a nice, loving home makes parting with them easier although of course, we will still miss them. However, with each goodbye, there is also a new chapter as we form friendships with a new family and move forward together.

A new chapter for Minnie Me & Lily

Proud new owners!

Proud new owners!

In my previous story I wrote of the difficulty in letting go of some of our alpacas and seeing them leave our farm. I have to admit I was feeling a little emotional at the time and while the story may have sounded a little downhearted, this not a sad time, but a new phase. When we raise wonderful, healthy animals to grow up and then move on to new homes where they are loved and valued, well, that is our goal and one we strive to do in the best manner possible!

The rewarding side of selling our alpacas is when you arrive with them at their new home and the new owners and their family are eagerly greeting you as you pull into their driveway. That excitement is truly contagious and we then come to realize that we are actually helping to fulfill someone's dreams of setting out into the world of alpacas. This feeling of accomplishment and joy is so rewarding, and it does certainly buffer any sense of loss we feel from parting with an alpaca.

Over the last ten years, we have helped many new people get started in the alpaca farming business, and Vickie and I are excited to forge new friendships that will last a lifetime. In addition, we feel that we have helped to strengthen the alpaca industry by broadening the base of ownership as well as introducing new people and ideas. We strive to continue our legacy of excellent alpacas and premiere customer service into the future as our farm business continues to grow.

Are you interested in starting your own farm? Contact us and we will be happy to schedule a private tour of our farm and answer your questions.

New Beginnings: "Lily and Minnie Me"

Minnie Me

Minnie Me

I'm experiencing mixed emotions as I prepare to deliver two of our favorite girls to their new home today. I'm often asked how we are able to let go of our animals, and what the process feels like. Honestly, it hurts. We love our alpacas and letting go of them is difficult. We care deeply about the homes they will be going to, and we interview prospective buyers to ensure they understand how to care for the alpacas and the responsibility they are taking on. We stay in touch with the new owners after the sale, remain available to answer questions and teach the basics of routine health care. For us, the sale is just the beginning of our relationship with our clients.

The upside of selling however, is that we are sharing the joy of alpaca farming with others. It is very rewarding to see their excitement as we come up the driveway with someone's very first alpacas! Oftentimes the entire family is there to greet the new arrivals, and we cannot help but share in their excitement and enjoy being a part of this experience. Vickie and I certainly remember how excited we were when our first alpacas arrived, and we love the opportunity to provide that now with our customers and delight in their "new beginnings" too.

For us, it is a privilege to be the farm which people choose to purchase from. It is also a responsibility, and one which we take seriously, as we are committed not only to our clients but also to the alpacas we have raised. Both of our girls will be missed, but at the same time we are celebrating the start of a new relationship and we look forward to sharing the love of alpacas with new friends. Happy Trails!
