 Why Be A Volunteer?

Volunteering is a great way to learn more about alpacas and alpaca shows. In addition to providing a valuable service to the organization, volunteering is a fun and creative way to market your farm inexpensively by getting face recognition from your fellow breeders.  Volunteers will also receive a T-shirt and complementary lunches, along with our profound gratitude. We can't run a show without you!

PLEASE NOTE: When you sign up for a particular time slot PLEASE plan to show up 15 minutes prior to your assigned time to ensure a smooth handoff.  Please contact  Chris Reachard  to sign up or if you have any questions. If you are volunteering be sure to include contact info and what interest/experience you may have.

Health Check Volunteer:
During the check-in process, this critical volunteer position helps to assure that we have a safe, secure, and healthy show environment.

Compliance Check Volunteer:
Volunteer for this important duty and learn how the color of your alpaca is determined for the show ring. You’ll get to sink your fingers into the fleece of many of the alpacas coming to the show! What better way is there to learn about quality fiber?

Gate Steward:
Gate Stewards are integral to the organization and pace of the show. Volunteer here to help keep alpacas moving efficiently through show rings.

Halter Show Clerk:
When you volunteer as a clerk you get a ringside seat on the superintendent's platform. Some of your duties will include recording results of the classes, tallying scores for performance classes, examining score cards, tallying scores for the Composite Show, and providing the Show Announcer with class results for broadcasting at the conclusion of each class. You need to be good with numbers and detail oriented, but you get a great taste of what goes into keeping all those show records in good order!

Ring Steward:
This is a great opportunity to assist judges in handling alpacas in the show ring and get an up-close and personal look at how the judges go about making their placements. You will get a wealth of information about alpacas by observing and assisting some of the industry’s top judges!

Fleece Show:
A fleece show Volunteer may be asked to help pack and unpack fleeces for as they are being checked in or judged. There's opportunity to help with the check in and check out process, scribe for the judges, tally the score sheets for the Superintendent, help set up and arrange the fleece show for review by exhibitors and the public. It is a job that requires a good bit of time on your feet but well worth the insights and fun

Walking Fleece Show:
Similar to a halter show, the Walking Fleece Show needs Gate Keepers, Ring Stewards and Clerks. Most of the jobs require time on your feet and attention to details. The Gate Keepers help keep the show ring moving and work more directly with exhibitors. The Ring Stewards work in the ring at the direction of the judge and the Clerks help the Superintendent keep all the scoring in order. There's something for everyone here!

General Volunteer:
In addition to the above volunteer duties, the General Volunteers may be any of the following:

  • Performance Ring Volunteer
  • Silent Auction & Raffle Table
  • Halter Show Clerk
  • Runners

Please use the Volunteer Signup sheets to sign up for the time slots you would like to fill.

Thank you for being a MAPACA Jubilee Volunteer!
