We are thrilled to host this 2-day clinic with Marty McGee Bennett. Marty has over 20 years experience working with alpacas. She has developed training methods to give you confidence and knowledge to safely work with even the most difficult alpacas. Marty has taught over 400 seminars in the US, Canada, Europe, England, Australia and New Zealand.
This is a 2-day clinic Saturday and Sunday, September 6 & 7, 2008. Cost is $325 and includes Continental Breakfast and Lunch both days. There is a $25 discount for early registration. Robert Van Saun, DVM - Alpaca Nutrition Seminar (Part II)

Robert Van Saun, DVM, PhD--THE leading authority on alpaca nutrition--will present a half-day seminar on Alpaca Nutrition. Dr. Van Saun is the author of the chapter entitled “Feeding the Alpaca” in The Complete Alpaca Book and is the Extension Veterinarian/Professor of Veterinary Science at Pennsylvania State University.
Part 1 of this 2-part series will be held on Friday, June 13, 2008 in two 1/2 day sessions (Session A: 8am-12pm and Session B: 1pm -5pm) and will be an introduction to the Nutritional Needs of Alpacas, focusing on the importance of testing forages and water sources and interpreting the results. Part 2 will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, September 6, 2008. For those not able to attend Part 1 on June 13th, it will be repeated the morning of September 6, just prior to Part 2. Part 2 will cover Developing a Balanced Nutrition Plan based on your farm’s individual test results, how nutrition affects reproduction, and the latest research in nutrition. Co-hosted by Chesapeake Alpacas, Millstone Manor, and Prairie Lake Alpacas. |

Dr. Norm Evans has set the standard for camelid health. He's coming to Criative Acres to share his wisdom with us, and we couldn't be more excited! Topics will include herd health/management, parasite control, costly management errors, nutrition to maximize alpaca fiber, breeding through birthing and mother & cria assessment, blood collection, handling and interpretation, skin biopsy and fiber production, and administering and reading ultrasounds.
This seminar will provide you with in-depth knowledge of alpacas and alpaca husbandry and is limited to the first 30 participants to allow proper interaction with Dr. Evans. Cost is $225/person. |

This all-inclusive seminar runs from Friday evening through Sunday. It contains all the information you will need to become a successful alpaca breeder. This seminar is essential for all potential and new alpaca breeders. This seminar covers both Huacaya and Suri alpacas. We will discuss the strengths of both types of alpacas, as well as how to breed both. This knowledge is essential in helping you pick your herd. Topics include evaluating and purchasing alpacas, alpaca husbandry, reproductive issues, and how to make informed genetic breeding decisions. The featured presenters are Al & Donna Elser who successfully managed 200 alpacas at Thompson Hollow Alpacas for over 10 years. Medical and reproductive topics will be taught by Dr. Jim Cohagen, DVM. Cost includes intensive seminar, materials, plus continental breakfasts and lunch.
