Health & Barn Requirements

EXHIBITORS PLEASE NOTE:
It is a good idea to carry your veterinarian’s contact phone number with you for the day of check-in, in case we need to contact him or her to clarify any information.

Requirements for ALL Alpacas:

  • All papers will be examined at check in.
  • In accordance with AOBA Show Rules, all alpacas entering the venue for the MAPACA Jubilee 2012 show must carry a working microchip. Each alpaca’s ARI Name and Microchip ID# must appear on the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) (Health Certificate). No ARI registration numbers as ID. Please bring a copy of the CVI with you to give to the Show Superintendent who will keep it as part of their permanent show records. Prepared photocopies will help speed your check-in process.
  • An Animal Owner or Caretaker’s Verification of Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) form must accompany each animal, and must be presented upon arrival at the show. CLICK HERE to download a PDF file of the VCPR form.

Alpacas from within Pennsylvania:

  • A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) which is dated MARCH 29, 2012 or later (within 30 days of the last day of the show) for ALL alpacas, regardless of age, completed and signed by a licensed Veterinarian from Pennsylvania.
  • Alpacas must have a negative PCR for Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVD). There is no time frame for this test, since one test is sufficient for the life of the alpaca. BVD test results are to be reported on the CVIs as “negative” or virus “not detected”. The date of the test, methodology (PCR) and the initials of the lab that performed the test must be listed on the CVI.

Alpacas from outside the State of Pennsylvania:

  • A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) which is dated MARCH 29, 2012 or later (within the 30 days prior to the opening date of the show) for ALL alpacas, regardless of age, completed and signed by a licensed Veterinarian from the state of origin, stating that all listed animals are free of infectious and contagious diseases (the statement is pre-printed on the CVI). The CVI shall include a statement verifying that “all animals identified on this certificate of veterinary inspection have been examined and found to be free from Vesicular Stomatitis (VS). During the past 90 days, these animals have neither been exposed to VS nor located within 10 miles of a site where VS has been diagnosed.” (As of August 16, 2010, only applies to Arizona).
  • Alpacas, 12 months of age or older, shall be brucellosis-test negative no more than sixty (60) days prior to the date of entry into Pennsylvania, and this must be indicated on the CVI, or the alpaca must be accompanied by a negative laboratory test report (a copy of the original lab report is acceptable).
  • Alpacas, 12 months of age or older, shall be tuberculin-test negative no more than sixty (60) days prior to the date of entry into Pennsylvania, and this must be indicated on the CVI, or the alpaca must be accompanied by a negative laboratory test report (a copy of the original lab report is acceptable). IMPORTANT NOTE: If your alpaca is coming an “Accredited Free” state or zone, no test is required. Check with your local vet to determine if your farm is located in an “Accredited Free” state or zone.

Micro-chips:

  • Only alpacas with readable microchips will be allowed in the facility. We will have AVID and Destron universal microchip readers at the facility. You may want to bring your own reader if you are concerned that these will not identify the chip in your alpaca. If we cannot find a chip on your alpaca at check-in you will have to return home with your alpaca. It is a good practice to check microchip integrity upon loading your alpacas for transport to the show.

Bio-security at the Jubilee:

  • Bio-security at shows starts with responsible exhibitors bringing healthy alpacas to a show. If your alpaca is sick with diarrhea and/or fever, please do not bring that alpaca to the Jubilee.
  • Upon check-in a veterinarian will examine your alpacas if your animals are displaying obvious clinical signs of being sick. If your alpaca appears in distress or has obvious diarrhea and/or fever, that alpaca will be quarantined into one of the show quarantine areas. Our show veterinarian will make the final determination whether that alpaca will be allowed into the show or not. No alpaca will be admitted into the show if the show veterinarian believes that an animal is too sick to show or is a possible risk to the rest of the animals at the show.
  • Here are some suggested guidelines that the AOBA/ARI GIRCOM has issued to minimize health risks at a show. Keep in mind that the following are guidelines only. These are suggestions and not required in any official capacity nor endorsed by the show staff as an official policy. We only supply this as a useful tool to exhibitors. Minimize Show Sickness PDF document.

No Alpacas Allowed in Trailers:

  • ALL alpacas entering the facility must be entered in the MAPACA Jubilee and must be micro-chipped and have the appropriate CVI and/or Health Certification papers. If you plan to bring alpacas that are not entered in the Jubilee, please make arrangements to have those alpacas boarded at a farm near the facility. You are NOT permitted to house any alpaca in a trailer or other vehicle in the parking lot.

Stall Limits/Information:

  • Stall dimensions will be 8’x10’ (10’ being the width of the stall). Note: There is a limit of 3 juveniles or 2 yearling/adults per stall. If two stalls are opened to make one combined stall, the limit increases to 7 juveniles or 5 yearling/adults per combined stall. This will be checked. If you have too many animals in a stall you will be asked to make other arrangements to house any extra alpacas.
  • There is a limit of TEN total stall spaces per exhibitor at the 2011 Jubilee. Emerald and Ruby Sponsors will be eligible for additional stalls as outlined in the Sponsor information.
  • Pen panels, sod and electricity will be provided and included in your individual stall prices. You must bring your own extension cords to run from the box to your stall.
  • All alpacas must be in their stalls no later than 8 pm Thursday April 26, 2012.
  • If you would like to have a farm display, remember to request a stall space for that purpose. To comply with the fire codes, the aisles may not be blocked. Please ensure that your display does not extend beyond the 8’ x 10’ area.
  • No product sales are permitted at locations other than in approved and registered vendor spaces or in the MAPACA Member Store.
